3 Signs You Need to Schedule Heat Pump Repair

Even the most well-cared-for heat pump can occasionally have problems. We are highlighting four of the most common signs that your heat pump needs professional attention. Knowing the signs that it’s time to call for service can help you be better prepared and act quickly.

Keep reading to learn about some of the ways that your heat pump is telling you something is wrong. Then, if you notice any of the signs or just have a gut feeling that your heat pump is not operating the way it should, give us a call for heat pump repair in Chesterbrook, PA.

Difficulty Starting

If it seems like your heat pump is having a hard time turning on for a cycle, that’s a reason to call for service. It’s possible that your heat pump has a capacitor that is going bad or that something is wrong with the blower motor. Either way, your heat pump definitely deserves professional attention, and putting off service may leave you with a total breakdown instead.

Signs that your heat pump is having a hard time starting include humming or clicking sounds that are persistent during the beginning of a cycle or your heat pump taking longer to turn on than it usually does. As the problem persists, sounds may get louder, or difficulty starting may become more obvious.

Poor Airflow

Airflow can be negatively impacted for various reasons. For example, you may feel weak airflow coming out of the vents, even though it feels warm or cool, depending on whether your heat pump is set to heating or cooling. Alternatively, you may feel strong airflow coming out, but it is room temperature instead of warm or cool enough to change your indoor air temperature.

For example, if you have your heat pump set to heating mode, the air coming out of the vents should feel hot when you hold your hand up. If it doesn’t, the system isn’t working properly when you change your indoor air temperature. You’ll likely spend a lot of money on energy costs for the system to operate without achieving the desired results.

Unusual Operation

It’s also a red flag if your heat pump begins to operate differently than it normally does. This can mean very short cycles, lasting only a couple of minutes, or very long cycles, resulting in the heat pump staying on without turning off for a break.

Changes in operation can also mean hearing loud sounds that your heat pump does not usually make. It’s also possible that you just have a gut feeling you can’t explain, but you know that your heat pump is not operating the way it usually does. It’s always better to be proactive and call for service than to ignore a potentially serious problem.
