How to Prepare Your Home for a Boiler Installation

Your old boiler has finally hit its limit, and it’s time for a replacement. The only question is, how much of a disruption is it going to be, and how long is it going to take? We know that any HVAC replacement is a bit of a divot in your day, so let’s help you figure out how long your boiler installation is expected to take based on all the boiler installation in Phoenixville, PA we’ve performed in the past.

Plan the Pre-Installation Appointment

The pre-installation appointment may sound like an unnecessary chore, but we promise it’s not just a meet-and-greet. It serves as a way to know what we’re walking into when we enter a home to replace a boiler, or install a brand-new one.

We’ll inspect the insulation surrounding the old unit, check the electrical connections, make sure the area of installation is primed and ready to go and gauge what size boiler you need going forward. That last step is important for a few reasons.

If you have a boiler that’s too big, it’s using an unnecessary amount of power to heat your home. If it’s too small, it has to work extra hard and endure greater wear and tear just to operate. We have to make sure it’s a Goldilocks fit so you aren’t wasting money.

Insulate Walls Ahead of Time

Once we pry a bit deeper, we can find out whether or not there’s sufficient insulation around your unit and the existing pipes. By the way, that pre-installation appointment should tell us if you need new pipes or not, and if you do, this is the time to find out.

If we have to install new ones, we’ll have to insulate those as well, which increases the time and cost estimate. However, this gives you the opportunity to learn where your home is lacking in insulation, and you can always DIY that approach if you’d like to increase your home’s energy efficiency and prevent unnecessary heat loss.

Clean the Area Near the Boiler

Your boiler is likely dusty and in a fairly forgotten corner of your home. It’s okay–it happens in many of the homes we and other HVAC companies service. In order to prepare for your installation, you can clear up the area, remove any debris, dust, and pull out nearby storage boxes to prime the area for installation day.

Clear a dedicated path for your technicians to travel when they bring the new boiler, and it will speed up the installation process. It also makes it easier to haul away the old units, so that’s always a bonus.
